Receipt Scanning & AI Notice
Effective July 2, 2026 · Last updated July 2, 2026
How it works
When you choose to scan a receipt, the photo is uploaded to our storage and sent to Google’s Gemini API, which reads the text and returns a best guess at the vendor, date, amounts, tax, and line items. We show you that guess so you can review and edit it before saving. Scanning only happens when you start it — nothing is sent automatically.
It's an estimate — verify it
Automated text recognition makes mistakes. It can misread amounts, transpose digits, grab the wrong total, mislabel tax, or miss an item entirely. Treat every scanned figure as a draft and confirm it against the paper receipt before you rely on it. The app includes a quick sanity check, but the final responsibility for accuracy is yours.
What to avoid putting in the photo
A receipt image can accidentally capture sensitive information — a full payment card number, for instance. Please avoid scanning anything you don’t need in the picture, and crop or cover sensitive details when you can.
Where the data goes
- The receipt image is stored in our private file storage, isolated to your account.
- The image and the text read from it are processed by Google's Gemini API to perform the extraction.
- The extracted text is saved with your cost as editable line items.
